Southern Company is a holding company that owns three vertically integrated traditional electric operating companies, Southern Power Company, and Southern Company Gas. The electric operating companies generate, transmit, and distribute electricity to retail customers in the Southeast and sell wholesale power to other utilities and cooperatives. Southern Power develops, constructs, acquires, and operates power generation and battery storage assets, selling electricity at market-based rates to investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, municipalities, cooperatives, and commercial and industrial customers.
